Talk about a rollercoaster! Round 19 delivered pure drama from the first whistle to the final second.
With our usual coach and cameraman away in Melbourne (meaning no video highlights this week, unfortunately!), the boys stepped up to manage a slightly reshuffled lineup. We welcomed back Fatlind, alongside Nic Pereira making his first appearance of the year. On the flip side, we were missing Christian through injury and Joel, who was stuck at work.
Coming off the bye, the squad looked refreshed and energized - which was crucial, as Seaspray rocked up with a stacked bench ready for a battle.
First Half Action
The tempo was set high from the start with shots flying early. Just 5 minutes in, a brilliant dummy from Fatlind set up Adem for an easy tap-in to break the ice. We kept the foot on the gas, rapidly adding a second and third tap-in goals to build a comfortable early lead.
Seaspray wasn't going down without a fight, catching us on a counter to pull one back, then capitalising on an error at the back to make it 3–2. The intensity spiked immediately and tackles started flying from both sides. Just before the break, Rosso Nero FC restored some breathing room with a neat 4th goal.
The half ended on a wild note when Adem suffered a nasty finger injury - left sitting at a brutal 45-degree angle! In true warrior fashion, he somehow popped it back into place himself before heading to the bench.
Half-Time Message: Take our chances and track the runners.
Second Half Drama
The second half began with relentless pressure from our attack. Fatlind unleashed a barrage of shots, while Amir nearly tore the net down with a long-range rocket that the keeper just managed to tip onto the top corner post.
Despite 7 straight minutes of total dominance, the ball just wouldn't cross the line.
Then came the sucker punch. Seaspray launched a counter to make it 4–3. Shortly after, another defensive mix-up brought the game level at 4–4. With 4 minutes remaining, disaster struck as CJ was beaten to the ball while going down for a save, putting Seaspray ahead 5–4.
With time running out, the boys regrouped. Amir went off with a knee injury, forcing a taped-up Adem back onto the pitch for the final 3 minutes.
Rosso Nero FC threw everything forward. A deflected shot led to a corner, then a brilliant save kept us out, but we refused to break. Intercepting a Seaspray counter, Fatlind drove 1-v-1, dummied the keeper, and whipped a cross to the back post where Nic Pereira capped off his season debut with a clutch tap-in! 5–5 with 30 seconds on the clock.
The 30-Second Miracle
Right from the restart, we pressed high and won the ball back. With 15 seconds left, a quick kick-in from the sideline shifted the play across the court, pulling their defense wide. Adem laid the ball off perfectly to Fatlind at the back post for the simplest of tap-ins.
6–5. 1 second remaining. Whistle blown. Game over!
The Bottom Line
It was a wild, heart-stopping performance that put our team spirit and "never say die" attitude on full display. Proud is an understatement!
We've got a few bumps, bruises, and fingers to heal up this week, but recovery starts now as we prepare for a massive Top-of-the-Table Clash next round.
See you all next week!
