Heartbreak in Rd 13

Against Top Opposition

Round 13 saw Rosso Nero FC face a tough challenge against the second-placed team on the ladder, who had only tasted defeat three times this season. We welcomed back Marcus, who stepped in for Nathan, while CJ bravely filled the goalkeeper position with Danny still sidelined due to injury.

The first half was an absolute cracker! The pace was electric, with both teams showcasing fast, one and two-touch passing and relentless counter-attacks. We utilised our bench to keep fresh legs on the park in what was a high-intensity battle.

Unfortunately, we went a goal down from a free kick. CJ managed to get his hands to the ball, but couldn't quite keep it out. Despite conceding, the first half was incredibly tight, with Rosso Nero FC creating more clear-cut chances but just unable to find the back of the net. We headed into the break trailing by a single goal.

The second half somehow managed to be even more exhilarating! We conceded a second goal shortly after the restart, but the team's spirit remained sky-high. We responded immediately with a fantastic bullet of a shot from Seb, bringing the score back to 2-1.

We continued to press and create opportunities, but their keeper seemed to have a charmed life, making save after save – including one where it looked like he'd moved out of the way! We were then punished for a lapse in defending at the back post, allowing them to score a third.

However, this Rosso Nero team never gives in! Shortly after, Nuno put their keeper under immense pressure, winning the ball and slotting it home to make it 3-2.

With the game on a knife-edge, the final minutes were a tense battle. In the dying seconds, we launched a lightning-fast counter-attack and had a clear sight on goal. Instead of a first-time shot, we took a touch, and the shot went in... one agonising second after the final whistle blew.

Despite the 3-2 loss, this was a game to be proud of. The team spirit was absolutely outstanding, and the gameplay was even better. We pushed a top team all the way and showed incredible heart and determination.

See you all next week!
