Round 20 saw us take on NeoCats, sitting 2nd on the ladder, and we did it the hard way — four first‑team regulars out.
Nuno (family commitments), Marcus (birthday dinner), and both Gabe and Alessio sidelined with a virus meant a completely reshuffled line‑up and no subs.
But in true Rosso Nero fashion, the challenge opened the door for opportunity. Tyler stepping in for their debut and Brett returning for his 8th match, and what followed was one of the most entertaining, free‑flowing games of our season.

First Half – Tight, Fast, End‑to‑End
Despite the changes, the boys came out firing.
The football was sharp, the movement was clean, and both sides created chances — only to be denied by excellent goalkeeping at each end.
The breakthrough came with five minutes left in the half.
NeoCats played a short corner, worked a second touch, and fired a near‑post shot. CJ reacted brilliantly, getting low and getting a hand to it, but the power carried it over the line.
We pushed hard for an equaliser before the whistle, but their keeper held firm.
Half‑time: 0–1
Team talk: Keep going — the goals will come.

Second Half – Goals, Grit, and Momentum Swings
The message worked instantly.
A few minutes into the half, Dan unleashed a left‑foot rocket into the top corner from near the sideline — an absolute cracker to level the game.
NeoCats responded with a tidy finish into the bottom corner via the inside post, but we weren’t done.
A slick one‑two between Jon and Dan opened space, and Dan smashed home his second, again into the top corner.
3 goals already in the half — and the drama wasn’t done.
Straight from the restart, NeoCats launched a long‑range curling effort. Brett was screened, CJ got hands to it again, but the strike had too much power.
3–2 down. 13 minutes left.
From our next corner, Dan played it short to Jon, who drilled a low shot into the bottom corner.
3–3. 10 minutes to go.

The Final Stretch – No Subs Takes Its Toll
This is where the lack of rotation hurt.
NeoCats, with fresh legs and overlap runners, pushed hard. Our boys, after giving everything, began to tire.
A fortunate bounce fell perfectly to their late runner for a top‑corner finish.
Then another switch of play found yet another late runner for a bottom‑corner strike.
And finally, a similar pattern saw them score their sixth as fatigue set in.
Final Score: 6–3

Full‑Time Thoughts
The scoreline doesn’t tell the story.
This was excellent team spirit, brilliant ball movement, and huge heart from a side missing four starters and running with zero subs.
We matched the 2nd‑placed team for 30 minutes and played some of our best attacking football of the season.
On another night, with a bench, we absolutely could have taken the win.
Tonight just wasn’t that night — but the performance was something to be proud of.

Happy Birthday Marcus.
See you next week.
